We Built a Browser Extension So You Can Stop Copy-Pasting

by Viktors Telle 3 min read

The number one piece of feedback we've gotten since launch is basically this: "I love the scanner but I hate copying and pasting my listing into it."

Fair enough. If you have 50 listings to check, that's 50 rounds of selecting text, switching tabs, pasting, and hitting scan. Nobody wants to do that. Some sellers told us they skip scanning entirely because the process is just too tedious for a big shop.

So we built a browser extension that does it for you.

What it actually does

You install it in Chrome (or Edge, or Brave, or any Chromium browser really) and then go browse Etsy like normal. When you land on a listing page, the extension picks up on it and gives you a scan button.

Click the button. That's it. The extension grabs the listing title, description, and tags from the page, sends it to our scanner, and shows you the results. Same compliance check you'd get on the website - trademark detection, policy analysis, the whole thing - but without the copy-paste dance.

It works on two types of pages:

  • Published listings - the public pages that buyers see
  • The listing editor - so you can scan while you're still writing or editing

That second one is the part I'm most excited about. Checking compliance before you hit publish is the whole point of this tool, and now you can do it without leaving your draft.

Why not just use the website?

You totally can. The website isn't going anywhere. But here's the thing - the extension removes a step that makes people procrastinate.

We've seen it over and over. A seller knows they should scan their listings. They mean to do it. But they're in the middle of editing a listing on Etsy, and switching to another tab and copying everything over feels like a chore. So they tell themselves they'll do it later. Later turns into never, and then three weeks from now they get that email from Etsy about a policy violation.

The extension just removes that friction. You're already on the listing page. One click and you know if there's a problem.

What you need

An account with us. The extension uses your existing Listing Compliance Shield login - you sign in once and it remembers you. Your scans count against your normal monthly limit, same as scans on the website.

If you don't have an account yet, the extension will walk you through creating one.

It's live now

Update: The extension has been approved and is live on the Chrome Web Store. You can install it right now. We wrote a separate post about the launch if you want the full rundown.

Will it work in my browser?

If you use Chrome, yes. But it also works in any browser built on Chromium - that includes Microsoft Edge, Brave, Opera, and Vivaldi. Basically if your browser can install Chrome extensions, you're good.

Firefox and Safari use different extension systems, so those aren't supported right now. If there's enough demand we'll look into it down the road.

Your data stays yours

The extension only reads listing content from Etsy pages you're actively viewing. It doesn't track your browsing, it doesn't run in the background, and it doesn't collect anything from non-Etsy pages. The listing data goes straight to our scanner and gets processed the same way it would if you'd pasted it in on the website.

You can review our full privacy policy if you want the details.

What's next

We're also working on connecting your Etsy shop directly for automatic listing sync - that's a separate feature that will let you see all your listings in one dashboard and scan them without visiting each page individually. The browser extension and shop sync are complementary. Use whichever fits your workflow, or both.

If you've got questions about the extension, reach out and let us know.
